From August, over 20,000 more households in the Wrexham area will have their food waste collected on a weekly basis.

A new batch of lockable food waste caddies are to be delivered to households from next Monday. These can go out with other recyclables to then be collected and emptied on the usual collection day each week.

A vehicle replacement programme has allowed Wrexham Council to roll out this service, with new vehicles equipped with a separate food waste compartment.

Up to two thirds of households will be equipped with the new caddies after next week. Homes not receiving a caddie are expected to continue using their green bin to dispose of food waste.

Cllr Bob Dutton, Lead Member for the Environment, was pleased with the progress: “Households in Wrexham have always been very enthusiastic about recycling their waste and it is entirely down to this support that Wrexham’s recycling figures are at their highest ever at over 50%.

“These new vehicles will hopefully see further improvements to that figure and I encourage people to use them for all their food waste.”
