Met Office issues weather warning for thunderstorms
A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued as overnight temperatures are set to soar to potentially record breaking levels.
Whilst there is no sign of temperatures cooling off until the weekend, the Met Office are warning that thunderstorms could hit Wrexham and large parts of the country overnight and into Wednesday morning.
The Met Office say: “Scattered thunderstorms are expected to affect parts of south-west and southern England this evening, moving north quickly across the UK overnight, clearing Scotland and eastern England by mid-morning on Wednesday.
“Although some places will miss the thunderstorms altogether, where they do occur there is the potential for frequent lightning, hail and gusty winds, as well as sudden downpours in a few places.”
In Wrexham temperatures have reached up to 29C this afternoon. We’re also in for a very warm and ‘uncomfortable night’ with temperatures sticking around the 23C mark.
The rest of the week currently looks set to remain hot, with current forecasts indicating that 30C could be reached in Wrexham on Thursday.
Temperatures will then drop 10C to a cooler (and more bearable if not a fan of the heat) by Saturday.
The Met Office say that 30.5°C was reached in Cavendish in Suffolk on Monday and as warm air continues to push up from the continent this week there will be widespread sunshine and temperatures will continue to rise for many.
Chief Meteorologist Frank Saunders added: “There is a real possibility of records being broken this week, not only for July but also all-time records.
“The weather setup is broadly similar to the pattern that brought high temperatures to much of continental Europe at the end of June.
“The difference this time is that the wind flow will be more directly from France, paving the way for some exceptional, perhaps record-breaking temperatures.
“As well as high temperatures during the day, overnight temperatures will also be notably warm and could also break records.
“Conditions will feel much more comfortable for western parts of the UK by the time we get to Friday.”
