A man who avoided arrest for 17 years after failing to return from prison leave is back behind bars.

Greg Newby, 42, from Wrexham was serving a five year prison sentence for assault when in 2000 he failed to return to HMP Kirkham following a release period.

Late on Friday July 14th he was stopped for a drink driving offence in Ruabon.

Checks revealed his identity and yesterday (July 17th) he appeared before Mold Magistrates Court where was given a six month prison sentence, a 17 month driving disqualification and £115 fine.
