Man Runs 26 Miles ‘For My Best Friend’
Stuart Dean, 27, a Shift Supervisor, from Wrexham, North Wales, is to take part in the Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday 26th April to raise money and awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust on behalf of his best friend, Aaron, who has the disease.
Aaron, who is trained in MMA, uses the sport to raise awareness for the disease and has inspired Stuart to train and do what he can to raise money for the cause he is so passionate about.
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease caused by a faulty gene. This gene controls the movement of salt and water in and out of your cells, so the lungs and digestive system become clogged with mucus, making it hard to breathe and digest food.
More than 2.5 million people in the UK carry the faulty gene, around one in 25 of the population.
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis but many treatments are available to manage it, including physiotherapy, exercise, medication and nutrition.
Each week five babies are born with cystic fibrosis, and two people die.
More than half of the cystic fibrosis population in the UK will live past 41, and improved care and treatments mean that a baby born today is expected to live even longer.
Speaking about Aaron, “Why the cystic fibrosis you ask? Well Aaron Aby, that’s why. A friend for over 8 years, Aaron suffers with Cystic Fibrosis and tries to combat it by using MMA. He keeps on top of it with a lot of training, dedication and hard work. He inspires me to get out there and push for things I would never do!”
