We received reports of major emergency service activity close to Gwersyllt station just before midday today.

An elderly man was taken to the Maelor Hospital with ‘life threatening’ injuries, locally reported to be severe leg injuries. The driver of the train was also taken to hospital, however he is not believed to be injured.

An air ambulance was seen landing and taking off from the vicinity of the incident.

Trains between Wrexham General and Shotton were suspended and replaced by buses, but the service has now resumed.
