53 year old man from Chatham detained after suspicious package sent to Covid-19 vaccine factory on Wrexham Industrial Estate
Kent Police have detained a man after a suspicious package was sent to the Wockhardt Covid-19 vaccine production plant on the Industrial Estate yesterday.
The suspicious package is reported to have been received at the facility yesterday morning prompting a large emergency service response.
As part of ongoing enquiries, which are being carried out by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, pre-planned warrants took place at addresses in Luton Road and Chatham Hill, Chatham, earlier today.
A 53-year-old man from Chatham has been arrested on suspicion of sending the packages and remains in custody as enquiries continue.
Police say there is no evidence to suggest there is an ongoing threat.
Yesterday part of Wrexham Industrial Estate was cordoned off for several hours as bomb disposal officers carried out investigation work.
Just after 3PM a controlled explosion took place on the suspect item.
Forensic officers worked into the night with investigations ongoing.
