Members of the public are being urged to make sure valuable items are not left on display in their cars, with one man arrested this morning in relation to stealing from vehicles.

A total of 14 vehicles have been targeted in recent weeks, with Town Centre Inspector Paul Wycherley urging the public to meet the police halfway and to make sure they don’t leave items on display in their cars.

Insp Wycherley noted there had been incidents recently where handbags, cash, tools and a credit card had been openly left on display in cars around the town.

One man was arrested this morning on suspicion of stealing from vehicles following a recent spate of offending. He has since been charged with two offences and will appear in court.
