A man has been arrested in Chester after driving ‘erratically’ around Hightown in Wrexham earlier this morning & smashed through roadworks to escape police.

UPDATE: Since posting this article, several readers have been in touch with one reader posting his account on our Facebook page. Steve wrote of an offroad excursion by the driver over curbs and rubble of the roadworks, adding: “Obviously ended up on the a483 as he ended up smashing through the roadwork signs and barriers at the temp lights right in front of us as we where in the traffic towards Chester”.

“(He) took a sharp right leaping over the new curbs back on the road to cut through the lights and head down the old Wrexham road to turn towards Eccleston. Police marked and unmarked cars following but about 2-3 mins behind at that point”

Just after 10am this morning we received reports of an incident involving a motorist near the Erddig area – Wrexham.com also saw a very low and quick flying police helicopter above town.

Eyewitnesses have told Wrexham.com that a ‘pursuit’ took place around Percy Road, by the Squire Yorke area heading down towards town past St Joseph’s school.

There is also an unconfirmed report that a police car was hit by the vehicle while in Wrexham.

North Wales Police said they received a call at 9:52am this morning regarding a male ‘driving erratically’ near Erddig and through town. The car was later stopped near Eaton Road in Chester at 10:30am.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said one male is currently in custody and thankfully we are able to report no one was injured as a result of the incident.

North Wales Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them  on 101. Reference number  S045130.
