An acclaimed and award nominated Welsh rapper will return to Wrexham this week to help raise funds for the city’s Wales Hip-Hop exhibition.

Cardiff artist Mace the Great will headline an all-Welsh showcase of MOBO music on Eagles Meadow on Friday 3 November.

All proceeds from the show are being used to help plan the next steps for the Wales Hip-Hop exhibition space and hopefully lead to the space remaining in Wrexham.

Mace has had a successful breakout 2023, performing at this year’s FOCUS Wales International Festival in May and going on to grace stages at Reeperbahn in Hamburg, Glastonbury and at the Utilita Arena in his home city where he supported Grime icon Dizzy Rascal.

The rapper also released his album “SplottWorld” in March which has gone on to be nominated for this year’s Welsh Music Prize.

The event, called “Larynx Live 6” is being organised and presented by Larynx Entertainment.

Company director Dave Acton insists that Mace’s rise is one that all of Wales should be inspired by.

“He’s a genuine superstar and very much on par with some of the best hip-hop or grime acts the UK has to offer,” Dave said.

“To have him as part of our showcase is something I’m extremely proud of and the level of talent in our support acts too, it’s going to be a brilliant night.”

Dave added: “Caia Park’s JP and Cardiff’s ShayShay and Aisha Kigs are also joining the bill at the Wales Hip-Hop Exhibition, located at Eagles Meadow Shopping Centre.

“Fellow Welsh Music Prize nominee Minas will also be in attendance as Mace’s DJ plus Dave ensures there’ll be room for some extras too.

“There’s always some sort of shenanigans taking place, be it a cypher or something.

“If there’s rappers in the building and a beat playing, I want to hear those rappers rap!”

All the funds from the show will be used to help plan the next steps for the exhibition space and hopefully allow the space to remain in Wrexham.

Over the summer workshops have taken place including writing and rapping, graffiti, DJing and breaking (dancing) and the space has been used to host other community and arts events such as VoiceBox, a retro games day and a breaking competition.

The Exhibition is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund with Avant Cymru leading the project, all parties hope that the space will continue to be and develop more ways in which it can engage with the community.

Larynx Live 6: Mace the Great happens November 3 at 19:30. Tickets are available now with 14–17-year-olds able to attend the gig for half price with tickets available at the venue in advance, at the door on the night or online via https://skiddle.com/e/36685479
