A national news title has featured Wrexham today in an article on ‘Spice’, a new psychoactive substance.

The report (viewable in full here) also states that as of last week ‘Wrexham drug services were warned that a batch of LSD that had been dipped in spice was in circulation in the town’.

Such a warning does not appear to have been made public aside from the Observer / Guardian article.

The article focuses on the homeless encampment on the Groves site, describing it as a ‘makeshift camp that appears to have been imported from the apocalypse’.

The infamous collection of images from the bus station are referenced, however a case manager with the Wrexham branch of Arch implies the issue is more prominent in the last six months despite the images dating as far back as 2015 – with social media getting the blame.

The Guardian also states that “Zombie hunting became a Facebook pastime” in Wrexham.

The full article can be read here.

There is a wider plan in place locally regarding the Groves camp after a ‘Gold’ meeting recently. Wrexham.com has asked leading Councillors for a copy of the plan that is apparently ‘free to be circulated once a handful of names are redacted’.

In the recent Town Centre Forum meeting the Chair of the Steering Group asked if it was a public document, and was told in effect yes. A very brief overview was giving, including noting it has a five page ‘communication’ section, when it was raised that the wider public may not know what action the local authority is taking. Despite emails, texts and calls the plan has not yet been released, but we will keep asking this week.

For those interested, here is a longer article regarding NPS and a new way of dealing with the issue locally that was trialled.
