Ian Lucas MP and Susan Elan Jones MP have both been supporting Holocaust Memorial Day.

Mr Lucas has attended commemorative events in Westminster and Wrexham in the lead-up to the day of remembrance, which is on January 27 every year.

This included signing the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment at the Houses of Parliament, pledging his support to remember the victims of the Holocaust. Mr Lucas is also due to speak at an event hosted by AVOW at the Memorial Hall in Wrexham on Friday, January 25th.

Mr Lucas said: “As the Holocaust moves from living history, to ‘just’ history, it becomes ever more important that we take the time to remember the victims and also pay tribute to the survivors. I know the people of Wrexham will show their support for such an important day, as they have done so fittingly in the past.”

Karen Pollock MBE, chief executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, added: “We are very grateful to Mr Lucas for signing the Book of Commitment, signalling a continued commitment to remembering the victims of the Holocaust as well as challenging antisemitism, prejudice and bigotry in all its forms.”

Holocaust Memorial Day is marked annually on January 27th because it is the anniversary of the liberation of the former Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Clwyd South’s MP Susan Elan Jones has met with constituent and Holocaust Educational Trust ambassador for Wales, Rhys Wyn Jones in Parliament (pictured below).

Speaking at an event to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day, Rhys said: “It is so important to be here in Parliament to remember the horrors of the past and ensure that they are never repeated again. I am pleased that my local MP came to sign the Holocaust Memorial Day Book of Commitment and show her support for this important commemoration.”

Susan Elan Jones MP said: “I have been privileged to meet with Rhys before and I know that he and the Holocaust Educational Trust do amazing work. We must never forget the Holocaust and other genocides in a world that is still sadly tainted by racism and bigotry. At the event in Parliament, we heard the amazing testimony of a Holocaust survivor.

“May we never forget what happened in the Holocaust and always stand up against anti-Semitism in all its shameful manifestations as well as every other form of prejudice.”
