Wrexham’s MP recently joined the Wrexham Indian Association and community to celebrate Bonalu.

Bonalu is a traditional Hindu festival centred on the Goddess Mahakali.

The event, on Saturday 8 July, was the first of its kind to be held outside of London.

This was the first Bonalu to be held outside of London.

Wrexham’s MP, Sarah Atherton, said: “The relationship between the UK and India is deep and longstanding, and based on mutual interests including culture and innovation, but also, profound links of culture, friendship, and family.

“So, it was particularly special, just after UK India Week, that we came together to celebrate Bonalu.

“Wrexham has always welcomed people from around the world who want to settle here, work hard, and contribute to our society.

“Having worked in health and social care for 25 years, I know how vital Indian doctors and nurses are in providing healthcare to the people of Wrexham and the hospital relies heavily on their contribution.

“This is what makes up Wrexham’s rich cultural tapestry and I was pleased to be invited to celebrate the festival with the Wrexham Indian Community and thank them for their contributions to our society.

“It was a wonderful event.”
