Local Media Weekly Review 21st-25th May
This is Wrexham.com’s quick run down of the fun & fabulous stuff we have spotted in the local media which we encounter – usually the Leader, Post , local radio stations , BBC News etc. If you have spotted something good, bad or funny in the local media get in touch with us and we will pop it up here!
Week of Monday 21st May 2012
A seen below, on Monday The Leader ran an article about the “key rolls” to be decided at Wrexham Council on Wednesday. We were at the meeting but couldn’t spot any sausage rolls or egg and cress for that matter so can only presume that the ravenous councillors polished them off before we got there. Cllr Phil Wynn has developed a reputation for loving sandwiches with Wrexham FC fans, and when we asked him light-heartedly if he was interested in said ‘rolls’ he told us “as long as they are egg I don’t mind!”.
On the same day the Daily Post used one of our stories from Saturday about a clever burglar who thought it would be a good idea to steal an asbestos filter which still contained particles of the deadly fibre.
The BBC broke news on Wednesday of some poor ducks who were left in a flap when they were abandoned by their mother at Stryt Las Country Park in Johnstown. We heard reports that she was busy paying off a large bill in Quack Save. Meanwhile The Leader got us all shook up with their fourth story in recent months about local ‘Elvis super fans’ who have all staked their claim to be ‘the region’s biggest fan’. We’re not sure who’s judging this contest, but news has definitely left the building.
On Thursday one story which got a few people fired up was that armed police officers were called in to direct traffic at Ysgol Plas Coch as reported by the BBC. Rumours that they were later seen holding up the tuck shop were quickly dismissed.
Today’s Daily Post told the story of a jilted lover from Gwersyllt who Googled “how do I break in to a house with double glazed windows?” and here at Wrexham.com we’re no strangers to people finding our site through strange Google searches. Queries used to find us include “what does allmand mean in french?” “what is ponsch meip?” “there are approximately 3.8 liters in a gallon, if gas costs $4.00 per gallon, how much would it cost per liter?” and “where can i get rinstead pastilles?”. Some of the most bizarre keywords that have been used to find us include “scarf twirl” and “father xmas and his elves”.
