Man ‘handed a 16 week prison sentence suspended for 18 months and disqualified for driving for 4 years’
A man has been “‘handed a 16 week prison sentence suspended for 18 months” and has been disqualified for driving for four years.
Wrexham Rural officers have detailed how they responded to reports of a drunk driver on the A483 on 5 February, and the subsequent outcome.
In a statement NWP Wrexham Rural said: “A large van had collided with the rear of a member of the public’s car who was waiting at a red light having exited at the Coedpoeth junction.
“The driver then left the scene without exchanging details, proceeding to clip another parked vehicle.
“Officers located the van in New Broughton, with the driver slumped behind the wheel.
“A roadside test of 134 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath (the legal limit being 35), put the driver at nearly 4 times over the limit.
“Callum Williams of Coedpoeth was charged with drink driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, leaving the scene of a road traffic collision, and obstructing police (having given officers false details and already being disqualified from driving).
“At court he was handed a 16 week prison sentence suspended for 18 months, disqualified for driving for four years, must complete 160 hours of unpaid work, received alcohol treatment, and pay costs totalling £239.
“The law is clear. If you have had a drink, do not get behind the wheel. You risk your livelihood, your licence, your freedom, and the life of others and your own.”
