Local initiative keeping families in Wrexham safe this Christmas with free PPE giveaway

PPE Hwb Wrecsam CIC are donating over 50,000 items of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to help keep families in Wrexham safe this Christmas.

The PPE Hub, based on Llay Industrial Estate, are the first community initiative group to be giving out PPE free of charge in this quantity.

During the run-up to Christmas PPE Hwb will be operating pop-ups and operating mobile distribution in Wrexham and the surrounding areas. Volunteers will be on hand distribute everything from medical grade face masks and visors to earsavers free of charge from lunchtime today. They will also be on hand to advise residents on the best ways to wear PPE.

Alison Thompson of PPE Hwb Wrecsam said: “As we’re heading towards Christmas we have seen an increased demand for PPE as individuals are wanting to take extra precaution to keep their families and friends safe this festive season.

“Since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak our main focus has been to provide protection to everyone in the community, and not just frontline workers. We’ve produced tens of thousands of face visors for individuals, businesses, community groups and charities in Wrexham and across the rest of the UK.

“By going out into the community we hope to raise awareness of the service we provide, ensuring that everyone has access to PPE. I was pleased at the response we received over the weekend at our stand in Ty Pawb, and hope that many more residents stop by one of our Pop-ups in Wrexham this week.”

Commenting on the work of PPE Hwb Wrexham’s MP, Sarah Atherton said: “Throughout this pandemic Wrexham residents have rallied together to support one another and have shown an incredible amount of resilience and adaptability, PPE Hwb Wrecsam is a fantastic example of this.

“Starting off the project from a living room table of Dr Graham Sparey-Taylor and family at the end of March to being based in a unit on Llay Industrial Estate, the project has come a long way and has produced tens of thousands of visors for local residents.”
