Users of a community facility have thanked council contractors for donating a new boiler to the centre.

Bradley Village Hall received the boiler from Glow-worm and Cliftons of Wrexham. The two contractors are currently working in partnership with Wrexham Council on its extensive housing improvement scheme to bring all council houses up to the Welsh Government’s Welsh Housing Quality Standard.

The hall was first opened in 1961, is owned by the village and managed by a voluntary committee of local people.

It is used regularly by a number of local groups, including the Bradley Playgroup who meet on weekday mornings, Monday to Thursday.

Children from the playgroup were able to thank the contractors in person when they visited the centre. Local Members for Gwersyllt East/South, Cllr David Griffiths and Cllr Bernie McCann also visited, along with Lead Member for Housing, Cllr Ian Roberts.

The children presented the contractors with two hand-made cards, one for Glow-worm and one for Cliftons, to say thank you for the work.

Treasurer, Registered Person for the playgroup and Secretary of Bradley Village Hall, Vervaine Edwards said, “We’re really delighted that we’ve been able to receive this brand new combi boiler.

“The hall is used very regularly by a number of local groups, including the children who are here almost every morning of the week. Having a more modern, efficient heating system will be a great benefit to all of us, especially during the winter.

“I’d like to thank Wrexham Council, Glow-worm and Cliftons of Wrexham for their donation.”

Wrexham Council are investing a record £54m in housing improvement work in 2016/17. The £54m includes a £7.5m Major Repairs Allowance grant which the Welsh Government awards to local authorities to support them achieving the Welsh Housing Quality Standard.

All contractors working on Wrexham Council’s housing improvement programme are now required to commit to ‘Community Benefit’ schemes. As well as refurbishing community facilities, this can include hiring local workers, taking on apprentices and purchasing supplies from local businesses.

Lead Member for Housing, Cllr Ian Roberts, said: “With such a huge investment being made in improving properties, it is important that as much of this is pumped back into the local economy through schemes such as the one we’ve seen at Bradley Village Hall.

“I’m delighted to see that communities all over Wrexham have benefitted from similar donations and this is set to continue as the housing improvement work progresses. The schemes are hugely valuable to community facilities which often rely on volunteers and donations to keep running.”

More information on Community Benefits and the improvement work being carried out to achieve the Welsh Housing Quality Standard can be found on Wrexham Council’s website.
