Local charity to host its ‘biggest fundraising event to date ‘at Wrexham AFC and Notts County game
A local charity set up in memory of its founders’ daughter is set for their biggest fundraising event to date with a bucket collection at Wrexham AFC’s home game against Notts County.
Boxes of Sunshine was launched by Kev and Lynsey Hill in September 2022 as a way to honour and keep their youngest daughter Kirsten’s memory alive after she sadly died of Leukemia in November 2021.
In the two years preceding Kirsten’s sudden death, she suffered with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. A condition which causes extreme fatigue, muscle and joint pain and brain fog.
“It robbed our vibrant young daughter of her independence and left her virtually housebound,” said Lynsey.
“When we were thinking of ways to keep Kirsten’s memory alive, we wanted to do something to help other young people who suffer with chronic illness or long term health conditions, and so Boxes of Sunshine was born.”
The charity sends out postal gift boxes to young people living with chronic illnesses or long term health conditions, anywhere in the UK.
In their first year alone the charity sent out over 200 boxes.
Tomorrow (Saturday 17 February) Kev and Lynsey, along with family and friends, will host their biggest fundraising event to date with a bucket collection at the Wrexham AFC home game against rivals Notts County.
Kev said: “It will be a great opportunity not only to raise vital funds for our charity, but to raise awareness of who we are and what our charity does.”
