A few weeks ago, local business Giggles and Games popped down to the Wrexham.com offices on Yorke Street for a chat and a few games.

Set up by Alice Murray, Giggles and Games is a local business that aims to provide exactly what the name suggests. Founded in September 2012, the business facilities and hires out giant toys and games for events. Some of the which include space hoppers (Wrexham.com’s personal favourites), giant Jenga, Hook-A-Duck, giant Twister, plate spinning and carnival games to name but a few.

After initially doing accountancy, when her children started school Alice decided to go to university. After studying a foundation degree in Events Management, Alice went onto study Business Management at Glyndwr University. However the initial idea behind supplying giant toys for events came at Party In The Park event that was held in 2011.

Alice said: “I decided to hold a Party In The Park event for the Royal Wedding. Over 500 people attended, there were bands, fireworks and it tied into my foundation degree in the end.

“We had giant toys and games there, and I just remember thinking that it was a really good idea.”

It was in a module whilst studying Business Management that provided Alice with the chance to start up her own business.

Alice said: “Part of the course included and entrepreneurship module, which involved pitching an idea in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style way.

“Fortunately the dragons were impressed with my games idea and asked why I wasn’t already doing it as a business.”

Since then Giggles and Games has quickly grown, and has already supplied games and toys for weddings, fundraisers, school events, birthday parties and has taught a group of Brownies some circus skills.

The name Giggles and Games was given to the business by a friend of Alice’s, who made the suggestion due to Alice’s laugh. Who admitted to us that she is known ‘for her loud laugh.’

Alice has been surprised by the feedback of Giggles and Games and hopes to eventually provide corporate events with toys and games.

“It’s still early days.” says Alice. “People assume it’s just for children, but it’s not. As soon as people start playing the games, they change. Their barriers just drop down.”

You can find more information about Giggles and Games on their Facebook page here.

(After having a quick race down the hall and some plate spinning lessons, Giggles and Games have the Wrexham.com seal of approval!)
