Live video stream of Service of Remembrance in Wrexham
The annual Service of Remembrance is taking place at the Royal Welch Fusiliers Memorial in town this morning, however members of the public are being asked to watch via the live stream rather than attending.
Wales is still in a firebreak lockdown due to the pandemic, and as such residents are being asked to remember from home the many sacrifices made by past and present armed forces personnel and their families in order to protect us.
There will be no parade in Wrexham this year, and only a very small closed service at the RWF memorial at Bodhyfryd – limited to a handful of people, including representatives from the Royal British Legion and armed services. The full order of service is below.

Ant Metcalfe, Wales area manager for the Royal British Legion said: “Whilst it is deeply disappointing that Remembrance events will be different this year, we understand that the decision has been taken to protect the health and well-being of all involved.
“The public can all still play a part in ensuring Remembrance Sunday is appropriately marked and the Royal British Legion are encouraging people to participate in their own personal moment of remembrance – whether that be watching the national Service of Remembrance on television or pausing for the two minute silence at home or on their doorsteps.”
A video message from David Griffiths, Armed Forces Champion at Wrexham County Borough Council, has also been published:
New Broughton Councillor Alan Edwards has also penned a poem titled ‘A Silent Voice’, circulated to councillors and others yesterday:
As we stood heads bowed, an impeccable silence from the crowd
Suddenly I heard a solitary voice to their mother cry out loud
It came from an infant who yet did not know
Of the silent respect being paid to those who give their lives so long ago
On the beaches of Normandy and in a Flanders field
And so many other places were the fates of many a young life was sealed
They died so that our generation and those that follow on after
Could live their lives in freedom, with joy and laughterBut that voice of an innocent child to me said it all
A fitting tribute to those names inscribed on many a grave and remembrance wall
And on the monuments were many of the bloodiest battles were fought
Commemorating those brave men and women whom a time in history were caught
People who fought to stop evil prevailing ,and would pay the ultimate sacrifice
So that into a better world could be born the young owner of that innocent voice
So always remind each new generation of the most poignant words you can say
They gave their tomorrows so we could have our today
