‘Know The Score’ Campaign Launched To Raise Awareness Of Drugs
A campaign that aims to raise awareness of the effects of drugs has been launched across Wales.
The ‘Know The Score’ campaign, which is run by helpline DAN 24/7 aims to raise awareness on the different types of drugs, their effects, the law on drugs and finally where you can get help and support.
In 2013 the campaign focused on Mephedrone which was very prevalent and causing a great number of problems across Wales. This year the Wales wide campaign has a rugby theme and is being endorsed by the Ospreys and Welsh international rugby player, Adam Jones.
Over the next few weeks awareness will be raised with radio adverts, press adverts in local North and South Wales newspapers as well billboards and perimeter boards at the Six Nations games at the Millennium Stadium.
Adam Jones, Ospreys and Welsh International said: “Here at the Ospreys we think it’s great that there’s a service like DAN 247 in Wales which can help people in Wales when they’re suffering from drug and alcohol problems.
“They can have such negative effects on peoples bodies and minds and its incredibly important that the people know the score when it comes to the affects they have on their health.”
Wrexham based DAN 24/7 (Wales Drug & Alcohol Helpline) provides support and information to anyone concerned about their own drug/alcohol misuse or that of a relative or friend. The service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a week.
In the last 12 months DAN 24/7 has responded to just under 1,400 calls from the North Wales area.
Janet Roberts, Helpline Manager said: “The success of last years campaign has meant we can build on what worked and we were really pleased to have teamed up with the Ospreys and Adam Jones to further raise the profile of this year’s campaign.
“We want to make sure that anyone in Wales who needs help with either drugs or alcohol issues knows there’s one number to ring where they will get support, information and sign posting to local agencies”
The “Know the Score” campaign will run until the 31st March 2014. There is also a competition running on the website to encourage people to access information online if that’s what they would prefer on www.dan247.org.uk .
