Wrexham town centre is set to become awash with Welsh flags, daffodils and celebration next week for the annual St David’s Day Parade.

In less than a week’s time there will be numerous celebrations across Wales to celebrate the Patron Saint, St David on March the 1st – and as usual there will be plenty of opportunity locally to join in the fun!

On Wednesday 1st March Wrexham will again stage its popular annual parade through the town centre, followed by entertainment in Queen’s Square to celebrate the St David’s Day.

Organised again this year by Menter Iaith Maelor in partnership with Wrexham County Borough Council, the parade has become a firm fixture in the calendar in recent years with hundreds turning out on the streets to cheer the parade on.

Everyone is welcome to take part in the parade which will assemble outside the Guildhall from
12:30pm before starting at 1pm (sharp!).

Under the leadership of Band Cambria, the parade will make it’s way through the town ending in Queen’s Square where pupils of local schools will perform and where everyone will have an opportunity to join in the singing of Calon Lân and the National Anthem of Wales to the accompaniment of the Wrexham County Senior Brass Band (lead by Steve Atherton).

Of course people are more than welcome to join in the parade at any point during the route!

The Chief Officer of Menter Iaith Maelor, Gill Stephen, said: “We would encourage anybody who would like to join our parade, such as local schools, societies or youth clubs, to get in touch with us.

“There is a very warm welcome to join the parade. We also hope to build on the success of last year’s ‘best dressed window’ competition by getting even more local businesses involved, we can be contacted for a free pack to help them get started.”

Anyone interested in getting involved in the parade or the window competition should contact Menter Iaith Maelor’s Gwen Smith on 01978 363791 or email [email protected]

The St David’s Day Parade will be the first of a series events to take place next week – with a three day musical celebration taking place on the High Street in the town centre between Friday 3rd March and Sunday 5th March.
