Works is taking place on the roadway where a HGV exploded last week, with hope the section of A525 could reopen later today at the earliest.

Wrexham Council’s Chief Officer Environment & Technical Darren Williams took questions this morning on the incident, and stated “The site was handed over to us, in a safe condition, this morning.

“It was a low risk issue.”

It was confirmed the road was ‘handed back’ to Wrexham Council by the fire service earlier this morning. Up to that point it appears the fire service were still in control of the section of road after responding to the incident and conducting investigation work.

Mr Williams added, “The HGV vehicle was there and there was nothing more than a shell left after the fire. It was cut up and taken away under blue lights. When they cleared the site and the response work had finished they handed the site over to us this morning.

“We had contractors lined up on Friday to do the resurfacing work, as the incident was last week, so that has been on hold.

“We are on site and doing the remedial works, and with a fair wind that job should be complete today with the traffic management removed and the job will be completed.”

We asked if Wrexham Council had sent letters to residents about the incident, and was told no, and letters referred to locally were about different unconnected works.
