Health Board: “We have seen no new outbreak cases of COVID-19 in the last four weeks amongst inpatients”
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board have issued a statement this afternoon outlining the current situation at the local hospital.
Today’s figures are significantly lower than at the end of July when confirmed cases hit ’70-80′.
Gill Harris, Acting Chief Executive of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, said: “As of this morning there are currently nine confirmed COVID-19 cases at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
“Of the nine patients in our hospital, none of them are receiving intensive care and we know all of these patients have now been cared for more than 15 days at the hospital and are recovering.
“We have seen no new outbreak cases of COVID-19 in the last four weeks amongst inpatients.
“Cases at Glan Clwyd Hospital, Bodelwyddan, Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor and our community hospitals remain low at present, in line with the rest of Wales.
“Please help us to continue to reduce the risk of transmission by only visiting our hospitals if it is absolutely necessary. Supporting vulnerable family or friends, or accessing healthcare services, remain the only reasons anyone other than staff should be accessing the site
“Please continue to follow the guidance set by Welsh Government and Public Health Wales. We strongly encourage patients and visitors and expect our staff to wear a mask or face-covering in our hospitals in order to reduce the risk of transmission and keep each other safe.”
On the 14th of August First Minister Mark Drakeford said 20 per cent of workers at the hospital had been tested as part of a programme that would see”all staff” being tested, and that the following week would seen an ‘accelerated’ testing exercise rolled out.
It appears 500 staff tests took place in just over a month between early July and mid August, with a further 300 taking place between the 14th and 25th of this month, leaving around 1,700 staff members still awaiting a test.
Ten days ago we asked Public Health Wales for the specific latest figures on testing, however they have still not been able to release them, we also asked Public Health Wales for the latest localised death figures, but they have still not been able to release them either – despite assurances from the Health Minister such information would be released.
