Green Flag status awarded to parks and community spaces across Wrexham

Country parks and community spaces across Wrexham have been awarded Green Flag status.

Awarded by Keep Wales Tidy on an annual basis, the accolade is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environment standards, is beautifully maintained and has good visitor facilities.

The honours go to Acton Park, Alyn Waters, Bellevue Park, Ponciau Banks, Tŷ Mawr and Wrexham Cemetery.

Community Awards went to Maes Y Pant, Plas Pentwyn and St Mary’s Churchyard, Chirk.

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “This is excellent news and a huge tribute to the staff and volunteers whose hard work has ensured we retain the prestigious flags during very financially challenging times.”

“Our parks are areas to be extremely proud of and as the summer holidays are now upon us I encourage as many as possible to get out and enjoy these areas, they’re free for us all to enjoy.”

Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “It’s fantastic that we have more Green Flag Awards in the UK than ever before, joined this year by 126 international winners.

“Each flag honours the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.
