Glyndwr University’s student-led online television platform GTV will be launched at an event held at the university this Friday.

Founded by Glyndwr students in 2010 as a means of bringing together the wider Wrexham community online, GTV will document and share what goes on both inside and outside the university.

Since the project’s creation, the GTV team’s work has focused on gathering content and producing a fully-functioning web presence in order to launch the service this spring.

Third-year media communications student Adam Perryman, who is GTV’s marketing executive, said: “We hope that GTV will help lessen the gap between the town’s student population and local residents.

“Both communities will be able to display what they can produce on the channel, which will lead to integration among like-minded individuals and organisations around the area, and create closer bonds throughout the people of Wrexham.”

The GTV team are inviting all interested Wrexham locals, business leaders and Glyndŵr students alike to come to the launch event in the Centre for Creative Industries on Friday at 12pm.

The launch event will present the GTV project, with an introductory speech by producer and third-year Broadcasting and Journalism student Catherine Devlin to be held at midday, with light refreshments available from 11am.

Guests will also be able to access the website and view its content during the event, alongside talking directly to the GTV team about the service.

Since being founded, GTV has been fronted by Glyndŵr University’s senior lecturer in broadcasting and media communications Sally Harrison.

Sally said: “It’s been a long time in development but what is so encouraging about this project is that it is entirely led by Glyndŵr University students who understand the power of digital inclusion”.

Alongside the launch of GTV, second year students will be hosting a ‘Spring Online’ event – inviting the people of Wrexham to bring old photographs to be digitised and added to the Wrexham Archive.

Spring Online will be held the same day as the GTV launch from 11am to 3pm in the Centre for Creative Industries.

GTV’s website can be found at www.wearegtv.com from 26 April 2013.
