A large section of Glyndwr University was cordoned off this evening as fire crews and police rushed to a fuel leak at the university’s Mold Road campus.

Reports started to come in of an incident at around 6.15pm when Wrexham.com follower Ian Young (@ianyoung82) contacted us to say that fire engines were in attendance at the university.

North Wales Police officers used a car to block traffic from entering the university via the Sainsburys roundabout and a a large fire hose was trailing across the road from a nearby water main.

When we arrived on the scene fire crews were hosing down a distinctive pick up truck vehicle which had leaked fuel close to the Glyndwr University library.

Fire crews attend the scene close to the student halls.

A policeman said that the corden had put in place in case the fuel ignited causing an explosion with student halls and football pitches all close by.

Two fire cars and one engine were in attendance as well as two police vans and two cars. Police officers were on hand to prevent students and people nearby from entering the cordoned off area.

A pick up truck style vehicle is hosed down as it leaks fuel.
