A unique child’s-eye view of the world is currently on display at Wrexham St Mary’s Cathedral in the form of an exhibition of children’s art from Gaza entitled ‘Loss of Innocence’.

The works were collected in 2009 by Rod Cox from Chester and Palestine Exchanges (CAPE) and tell through pictures a moving story of the traumas experienced by children during the ‘Operation Cast Lead’ bombardment of Gaza by Israel in 2008-9 which, according to Dr. Khalil Abu Foul, spokesperson for the humanitarian Red Crescent organisation “did not just have 1500 killed, or 5000 wounded. It has traumatised the entire population, all 1.5 million.”

Wrexham Peace Day Group, which organised three days for peace last year in September including a day for 300 children from 10 local schools, have arranged for the exhibition to come to Wrexham.

Rod Cox will be speaking about the exhibition at the Cathedral at 7pm on Thursday 16 May at an evening viewing.

The exhibition is free of charge and open to the public daily from 9am to 5pm until 17 May, main Cathedral entrance.

It will then move to other venues in the Wrexham area over the following weeks and will be at St Christopher’s School from 4 June.

Teachers interested in taking pupils to the exhibition and a session led by Rod Cox in June can contact [email protected] for more information.
