Options for the future running of the bus station information centre are “now being considered” after the contract with the former Skiers Lodge company was cancelled last month.

The information office, which reopened last April, provided details of bus timetables and travel information to passengers and visitors.

However last month Wrexham.com reported that Wrexham Council had terminated its contract with Transervis Ltd (formally known as Skiers Lodge LTD) for the operation of the bus information shop in the Bus Station.”

The company – who had operated easyBus locally for just 75 days closing services after serious well documented issues – had been awarded a three year contract to operate the facility on behalf of Wrexham Council.

But speaking last month, Cllr David A Bithell Lead Member Environment and transport said that a decision had been made to “terminate the contract with immediate effect”.

He continued: “It is unfortunate that the council has had to take the decision to terminate the contract and we must now consider the options as how best to move forward ensuring that residents and visitors to Wrexham have the means to access accurate and up-to-date timetable information.

“The council remains committed to working with the Welsh Government on the on reform of bus services both locally and regionally.

“Local bus services are for many a life line and it is important that together, we look to address the alarming decline in the industry and look to establish a truly integrated and sustainable passenger transport network that meets the needs of all.”

In an information report submitted to councillors, it is noted that options are now being considered as to how the council ensures that “residents and visitors to Wrexham have the means to access accurate and up-to-date timetable information.”

The report adds that further updates will be provided to councillors on the future of the bus station office.
