Fundraiser launched for Wrexham war veteran who has fallen on hard times
A fundraiser has been launched for a Wrexham veteran who has fallen on hard times after a local councillor decided to come to his aid.
The man, who has been named only as “Joe”, served two tours in Iraq with the Royal Engineers in 2004 and 2006.
He returned home to Wrexham in 2008 to start a business and raise his three young children.
In the last year, he has encountered a number of personal issues, including the breakdown of his marriage and the collapse of his business.
Cllr Marc Jones, who represents the Grosvenor ward, said Joe had also suffered with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
He decided to step in after his problems grew worse during the coronavirus pandemic.
Cllr Jones, who heads up the Plaid Cymru group on Wrexham Council, said: “His house was re-possessed by the bank last month and, after some worrying times, he’s just found a new home for himself and the three children, who he has custody of.
“Trying to get them to school across town is now a challenge – especially after his car’s head gasket blew.
“He needs cash to fix the car to help get him back on his feet.
“This is not something he wants to do and he’s asked me not to name him, but I want to help him get back on his feet. That’s the purpose of this Crowdfunder.
“If you can help in any way, please donate.”
Cllr Jones said he was aware many people were facing financial difficulties because of the Covid-19 crisis, but has appealed to anyone who can afford to help.
