Funding support available for groups supporting those facing food poverty in Wrexham
Voluntary organisations and community groups across Wrexham providing support to those facing food poverty, can now apply for grants to help expand their work.
The Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (AVOW) is operating the grant scheme, which is funded by the Wrexham European Transition Fund 2021/2022.
The funds are available to support all the work that is already happening across our communities and follows on from a previous food poverty grant fund in which over £20,000 was awarded to nine community initiatives.
Community groups and voluntary organisations that are helping those facing food poverty, through strengthening community food initiatives across Wrexham County Borough, are encouraged to apply for a grant.
Funding is available for a variety of activities, including food initiatives such as social supermarkets, community cafes, lunch clubs and community cookery classes. Organisations can also apply for capital funds for purchasing items such as fridges, freezers, and cooking equipment.
It can also be used to purchase IT equipment which could help facilitate a system of electronic referrals and contact with customers.
Funding can be used for both capital and revenue, and is also open to organisations that have already received funding from a previous AVOW Grant Scheme.
Chief Officer of AVOW, Dawn Roberts-McCabe, said: “With rising costs impacting so many people right now, I’m delighted these funds are available to support our community organisations and those who continue to struggle financially.
“We recognise there is a quick turn around on these applications and encourage organisations to contact our team if you have any questions or need further support.”
Full criteria can be found on the AVOW website, along with the application form. The closing date for applications is Monday 28 March 2022.
