Free swimming sessions for children and young people will take place in three local leisure centres over half term.

The free swimming scheme will be open to those 16 and under at pools at Waterworld, Chirk and Gwyn Evans throughout the half term holidays.

Run in partnership between Wrexham Council, Freedom Leisure and the Welsh Government, the scheme allows free access to local swimming pools during weekends throughout the year, and during school holidays.

Applicable to all children aged 16 and under, the initiative entitles visitors to free splash sessions at selected times at their pool – however times can vary between centres to be sure to check beforehand!

If you have children, they should be bringing the flyer home from school with them soon – and it will also include the free card you need in order to access free swimming sessions, so keep an eye out!

Cllr Andrew Atkinson, Lead Member for Youth Services and Anti-Poverty, with responsibility for Leisure, said: “Keeping children and young people occupied during the holidays can sometimes be difficult, but the the free swim scheme make sure there’s always something going on for them to get involved in – whether you’re looking to keep them exercised or just keep them occupied.

“Some of the sessions also allow for free swimming for the whole family (up to four people), so it’s well worth seeing what’s going on.

“And bear in mind once the holidays end, the scheme runs each weekend throughout the year – so there’s always a good time to get to your local pool.”
