Former Wrexham B&B provides essential homeless support to over 240 residents
Over 240 people have moved onto permanent accomodation thanks to the help of a homeless facility on the outskirts of Wrexham city centre.
The former Grove Guest House, on Chester Road, was purchased by Wrexham Council for use as a temporary homeless hostel during the coronavirus pandemic.
It aimed to ensure homeless people were not vulnerable and isolated during the lockdown – with the first guests arriving in January 2021.
The former B&B has 16 bedrooms with en-suite facilities for single residents, along with a communal area with a lounge, dining room and cooking facilities.
The facility - which is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week – offers support and guidance to individuals.
Various support agencies visit daily or weekly and residents have access to courses to build their confidence to become independent and care for themselves before moving on.
Communities for work also attend to help support people back into work.
In the last three years over 240 residents have now successfully moved onto permanent accommodation or supported accommodation to meet their long term housing need.
Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Housing, said, “Grove House has shown that giving the correct information, advice and education to those who, for a variety of reasons, find themselves homeless can be key to future housing security.
“The premises is now a permanent facility and will no doubt see many more successful outcomes.
“The staff do a great job and I would like to thank them for all they do to ensure a smooth transition into permanent accommodation and a life away from homelessness.”
Earlier this month Wrexham Council secured planning permission to use the former Grove Guest House as a permanent homeless facility.
