Children from across Wrexham are being invited to a series of ‘Food and Fun’ mornings in the town.

Running between the 22nd and 31st of December the events aim to provide children with fun festive craft workshops and also a free breakfast.

The sessions will be held at the Hightown Resource Centre on Fusilier Way in the town and will run between 9.30am and 11.30am each day. The sessions will be held on December 22, 23 and 24 and also on December 29, 30 and 31.

They have also been given backing by a number of Wrexham businesses who have provided food and supplies for each morning, and with a £700 made from the Church in Wales to St Mark’s Church.

Engagement Officer for the Church in Wales, Sarah Wheat, said: “There’s often not a lot for children to do when schools are shut around Christmas. It’s also a time when people don’t have a lot of spare cash because of Christmas commitments.

“Recent figures also show Wrexham’s food bank usage is the second highest in North Wales.

“With that in mind, a group of us came together to work out how best to give young people something to do – and a free breakfast – during the Christmas break.

“Volunteers will be running these mornings in the run-up to Christmas and New Year and young people from across Wrexham are more than welcome to come along.”

The sessions have been organised by a range of organisations, including: Communities First Caia Park and Hightown; The Salvation Army; Early Years Forum; Communities First Urban Villages; Caia Park Health Team; Mind Cymru; Wrexham Play Team; The Venture; Gwenfro Valley; St Mark’s Church Caia Park; The Church in Wales; Hightown Community Resource Centre and Ian Lucas MP.

Young people up to the age of 11 are welcome to attend the sessions – which are free.
