A meeting to discuss the action taken to tackle antisocial behaviour and drug usage in the Rhosddu area is to take place this month.

Issues with drug abuse in Rhosddu and the parts of the town centre have been well documented in recent months, with issues all coming to head at a fiery public meeting between residents in November 2016.

A few days later a separate meeting organised by North Wales Police and the North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Arfon Jones, saw the discussion dominated by the ongoing drug and antisocial behaviour issues faced by parts of Wrexham.

Now a follow-up meeting for North Wales Police and leading councillors to update residents on the action taken so far and when the next steps will be, has been organised for January 31.

Both Rhosddu meetings have been organised by local Conservative campaigner Andrew Atkinson and the local ward councillors for the area, Cllr Steve Wilson and Cllr I David Bithell specifically for residents of the wards, after the Police and Cllr Hugh Jones expressed a desire to update residents.

Mr Atkinson described the current situation with drug abuse in Rhosddu as ‘awful’ and unfair on local residents.

“There have been numerous complaints and a lot of public concern about drug abuse, anti-social behaviour, discarded drug paraphernalia and more and residents are understandably concerned and angry,” said Mr Atkinson.

“It’s an awful situation for Rhosddu with all of the services centred in that area, this is unfair on the residents and has caused many problems over the years.

“Whilst the Police and others can’t address the planning mistakes of years gone by there is a lot that can be done by the various agencies to improve the situation and I hope that these meetings can help to get things done, the last one seemed to have some effect and it will be good to receive updates about the action taken.”

Cllr Hugh Jones added: “I welcome the opportunity to meet with the residents to update them on the significant progress that has been made in dealing with the issues raised at the first meeting and, more importantly, to listen to their views and any concerns that they may still have”

The meeting will be held at the Community Church, Prices Lane, Rhosddu, Wrexham at 6:30pm on Tuesday 31st January. The meeting is for Rhossdu/Stansty residents and if any more information is needed about the issues they can contact their local councillors:-

Cllr I David Bithell- [email protected]

If more information is needed about the meeting residents can contact Mr Atkinson at [email protected] or 07914211631
