A woman whose husband died while mountain biking has paid thanks to the Wrexham Rural First Response Team who tried to save his life.

Tony Wilkes, 51, suffered a heart attack five miles along the path at Oneplanet Adventure mountain bike centre in Llandegla, North Wales, in March.

Despite the best attempts of the first responder, paramedic and Oneplanet staff, the father-of-two could not be saved and sadly passed away.

His funeral was attended by hundreds, raising more than £1,600 in donations, which wife Selina decided should go to those who tried to help her husband.

Selina, who lived with Tony and their children Kyle, six, and Ella, now aged four,  recently returned to Oneplanet Adventure to present cheques to the Wrexham Rural Community First Responders, the Wales Air Ambulance, and Oneplanet itself.

The Wrexham Rural Community Response Team are a group are a non-profit, unpaid volunteers who work under the Welsh Ambulance Service Trust. Established in 2013 the Wrexham Rural Community Response Team has continued to grow and play an important role in the local community.

The donation from Seline and her family will be used to buy additional defibrillators, training equipment and uniform for the teams.

More information on Wrexham Rural Community First Responders and the great work the team does can be found on Facebook.
