Fingers crossed for Underneath the Arches ahead of National Tourism Awards tonight!

It’s fingers crossed for the team behind one of Wrexham’s biggest annual events, who will find out this evening if they have scooped a top tourism award.

Underneath the Arches, which is held every summer at the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, is one of four tourism events to feature in the ‘Best Event’ category at the National Tourism Awards 2018.

Taking place at the Celtic Manor in Newport this evening, Underneath the Arches will go head to head with Green Man Festival, Visit Cardiff (UCLF’17) and the Long Course Weekend for the award.

Organised between This is Wrexham and Wrexham Council’s events team, Underneath the Arches attracts thousands of people to the county borough each summer for an evening of live music, fireworks and of course the illumination of the 126ft tall pillars of Thomas Telford’s aqueduct.

In July 2017 over 3,000 people flocked to the World Heritage Site, marking the fifth year of the Underneath the Arches celebrations.

Amanda Davies, Marketing and Promotions Manager said: “We are so delighted to be nominated for the award and for the Council’s Events team to have recognition for all the hard work. It’s a great accolade for the county of Wrexham.
