Final preparations underway for this weekend’s Wrexham Singing Streets Choir Festival!

Final preparations are underway for the return of Wrexham’s Singing Streets Choir festival this weekend.

Hundreds of singers will be making their way to the town centre on Saturday September 30th to take part in the festival, which runs between 10am and 4pm.

Featuring choirs from across North Wales and North West England, this weekend’s festival follows on from a successful event in 2016.

Singers of all ages will be taking part, and well-known choirs – such as Britain’s Got Talent finalists Only Boys Aloud – will also be joining in the fun.

Choirs will be singing at hotspots across the town centre – with singers set to perform at Wrexham Museum, Hope Street, Queen’s Square, Lord Street, Chester Street and Eagles Meadow.

There will be a chance for members of the public to join in too, with The Big Sing, a mass singalong in Queen’s Square at 1pm.

This year’s festival has received sponsorship from Eagles Meadow, Wockhardt, Crime Link, and Costa Coffee – with sound systems supplied by John Jones Quality Acoustics. It has been organised by a small team including Wrexham MP Ian Lucas, Glyndwr University staff, Gateway Church and others.

Mr Lucas will be at the event on Saturday – and is urging people from Wrexham and beyond to come along and join in the fun.

He said: “The festival last year brought hundreds of people to Wrexham, and hundreds more will be coming this year. There are singers of all ages, and choirs from across our region.

“One of the things that marks this festival out for me is its sense of community. There are actual community choirs taking part, as well as choirs from specific communities such as Holt.

“Singing chorally builds a community among choirs, and that certainly comes through in the performances people will see at this year’s Singing Streets festival. The festival also gives people a new experience as they visit our town, and events such as The Big Sing let them join in – and maybe find a new hobby.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has lent their support – we’ve really had an excellent team of people working on this year’s event, and I know that it’s going to be a real success.”
