One of Wrexham’s most popular calendar events is set to return ‘bigger and better’ than ever this Christmas.

It may only be week two of the summer holidays, however work on Wrexham’s Christmas offering is already well underway, with confirmation this week that the Victorian Market is to expand further into the town centre.

The market, traditionally held on the first Thursday of December, usually takes place in Church Street and the grounds of St Giles.

However in recent years there has been calls to expand the market further into town, with demand and visitors to the event growing year on year.

Details posted online this week state that this year’s market will be ‘bigger and better’ – with over 100 stalls on Queens Street, Hope Street, Church Street and St Giles Courtyard.

The onle statement continues onto add: “Stalls this year will sell products such as toys, candles, clothing, jewellery, handbags, books, cards, crafts, gifts, seasonal plants and hand made Christmas decorations. Local producers will be on hand to take orders for Christmas turkeys or geese or to sell everything from pies, sausages, cakes, brownies, chocolates to local cheese, beers, cider and preserves.

“For anyone feeling in need of immediate sustenance, there will be all sorts of hot, freshly prepared food to try including German sausages, festive mince pies, mulled wine and hot chestnuts.”

Speaking at yesterday’s Town Centre Forum, Destination Manager at Wrexham County Borough Council, Joe Bickerton said: “We have started talking about Christmas and looking where we are getting the tree from again.

“The Victorian Market this year will be the biggest yet, we’re taking it beyond the High Street and it will flow through town.

“There had been demand for that over the past few years and it has been a logistical headache. If you go through the church gates it does get tight, so for the general feedback and number of coach trips coming this year, we feel it is better to thread through town and hopefully shops will stay open late as well.”

The market will take place on Thursday 7th December between midday and 8pm.
