Tomorrow is set to be a historic day for Wrexham town centre, with the invite extended to everyone to head to the town centre to take place in the official public launch for Tŷ Pawb.

Paying homage to an old Victorian tradition in Wrexham, Dydd Llun Pawb (Everybody’s Monday) aims to ‘capture the essence of the original 1800’s event but reimagined in a celebratory and playful way through a street parade and entertainment’ it will also be the launch of six new souvenirs based on ‘six of Wrexham’s strangest and most wonderful stories’.

The event will be family friendly – and free – plus will ‘celebrate the wonderful contributions so many people make to the town’

The first phase of Dydd Llun Pawb has been completed, including the commissioning, filming and creation of the two videos below to set the scene:

The second phase of Dydd Llun Pawb is the event tomorrow, and both had a combined estimated budget of £43,000 making it one of the biggest budget public events in the town that we can remember. Local company Focus Wales are putting the show on tomorrow on behalf of Wrexham Council, and are ‘expecting visitors from far and wide on the day’.

If you want to take part, or see the event – make sure you are in town tomorrow lunchtime as it the parade starts at 12:30pm  – and members of the public are invited to see the new arts and market space for themselves and to take part in a day of celebrations to mark the opening of Tŷ Pawb.

Earlier this month leaflets with further details on Dydd Llun Pawb were sent to every household across the county borough; inviting people to take part in tomorrow’s events.

Kicking off at midday, Dydd Llun Pawb will begin with a huge parade through the town centre that leaves at 12:30pm on a mini lap of town.

Starting at Hope Street / High Street by St Giles the parade, which will be led North Wales’ self-proclaimed ‘brass band with attitude’ Band Pres Llareggub Brass Band, make its way through the town centre, past the Monday Market on Queens Square and into Tŷ Pawb where the centre will be declared open.

The parade will also feature six giant sculptures, representing six different aspects of Wrexham’s history and community – along with members of local charities, youth and community groups, each celebrating their own special contributions to Wrexham.

Almost nine hours of entertainment and activities are billed for the event both inside Tŷ Pawb and along Chester Street, including a fairground stall with a Victorian twist, a host of arts, craft, food and drink stalls, a children’s playground from the organisers of Wrexham’s ‘Playday’ and Techniquest Glyndwr’s StarDome Planetarium.

An outdoor stage will be set up on the southern end of Chester Street

UPDATE 9pm “With wet weather expected overnight and for tomorrow morning, we’ll be moving all of the entertainment planned for the outside stage tomorrow to indoors at Tŷ Pawb. The parade will still be going ahead as planned at 12.30pm.”

The initial yellow weather warning issued for snow has now thankfully been changed to a yellow weather warning for rain, with downpours expected throughout most of tomorrow. However the show will go on and the Dydd Llun Pawb celebrations will take place, and we are told there are a few contingency plans in place incase of heavy rain!

Cllr Hugh Jones, lead member for communities, partnership, public protection and community safety, said: “We’re thrilled to announce the programme activities to the public.”

“Tŷ Pawb will be a place the whole community can enjoy, a place to eat, drink, shop, study and relax, and we’re very much looking forward to opening its doors to show the people of Wrexham and further afield all that it has to offer.”

Dydd Llun Pawb is free to attend and open to all. For all enquiries email [email protected]/?s=ty+pawb&post_type=post&order_by=date
