Tonight the experiences from this morning have been repeated with ongoing roadworks creating traffic jams around the ‘Posthouse’ junction.

The above picture was taken by Steve from a bus back to Wrexham, who said: “Chester business park gridlocked been here 45 mins”.

The issues are not limited to those trying to get from Chester on to the A55 and towards Wrexham, with Ali telling us: “Just coming home from Chester and the queue on the A483 Northbound stretches almost all the way back to the Rossett turn off”.

As of 6pm the view on Google traffic status indicates the scale of the issue around the junction:

This morning we reported similar issues during the morning rush hour.

Some are however seeing a lighter side to the problems:

The changes recently is the move to phases 3 and 4 of the project that include:

  • Installing a new footbridge to cross the A55 to the west of the Wrexham Road West bridge.
  • There will be lane 1 closures on the A55 mainline carriageways (within junction 38) and eastbound exit slip and westbound entry slip whilst we build the bridge substructure.
  • Widening the A55 westbound off slip which requires closure of offside lane thus taking the slip road down to 2 lanes approaching the traffic signals for a period of 6 to 7 weeks
  • There is also widening works across the Wrexham Road Bridge and the northern quadrant of the junction.

You can read our dedicated page with more details of the work here, and if you want to see what the final junction will look like you can view the full plans on our report here.
