“Emergency services have now stood down” following Plas Madoc incident

UPDATE: Police have issued the below statement following the incident response.

North Wales Police said, “Shortly before 5pm today (Wednesday, March 20th) we responded to an incident in the Plas Madoc area in Wrexham following a report of suspicious material.
A joint investigation between North Wales Police and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service found no ongoing concerns.

Chief Inspector David Cust said: “This was an isolated incident and emergency services have now stood down following joint enquiries that found there are no wider concerns for the community.

“I would like thank residents in the area for their understanding and patience while we carried out our investigations.”

There is a large emergency service response in Plas Madoc this evening.

Three sources familiar with the incident have detailed a serious incident in the council estate office, that resulted in individuals suffering breathing difficulties. There is no update to the condition of the people affected.

It has not been confirmed by police as of yet, but multiple sources report one person was arrested in the immediate police response.

Plas Madoc Leisure Centre have issued a short statement this evening, “Following an incident this evening unrelated to the leisure centre we would like to apologise to those customers who were unable to gain access to our facility. The emergency services have now left and there is full access to our car park.”

The fire and rescue service, along with the police are still attending the area.

Cordons are in place, with one resident relating there were ‘three bags’ – or items – close to the leisure centre car park that appeared to be of concern, with the car park area close to the Pharmacy / Estate Office end being the focus of the investigation.

North Wales Police are leading on the incident response.
