An ‘electrical fault’ affecting parts of Wrexham this afternoon resulted in a ‘power outage’ at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Shortly before 2pm this afternoon there was ‘unexpected fault’ in the energy network on Croesnewydd Road and the surrounding areas.

Details on the SP Energy Network website state: ‘Monitoring systems on our network have alerted us to an unexpected fault affecting a number of customers over a wide area. We apologise for the inconvenience caused, our emergency response teams have been notified.”

It is expected that the supply will be fully restored by 4:15pm.

As a result the Wrexham Maelor Hospital is experiencing an electrical fault, with a backup generator covering all essential supplies in the hospital.

A spokesperson for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board said: “We are experiencing an electrical fault which is affecting Wrexham Maelor Hospital. Specialist engineers have been contacted to visit the site to diagnose the issue and provide support in returning power as quickly as possible.

“A backup generator is providing electrical cover to all essential power supplies in the hospital. Some elective surgery has been put on hold until we know the extent of the fault.
“Any patients with appointments scheduled for this afternoon should continue to attend as planned.

“We will provide further information as soon as possible.”
