Residents in Wrexham are being urged to remain vigilant following reports of a ‘Telecare’ scam in the area.

Trading Standards are warning residents to be on their guard following an incident where a vulnerable resident was contacted by telephone by someone trying to sell him a system similar to Wrexham CBC’s “Telecare” system.

Despite declining the offer made over the phone a man still called at the resident’s home apparently to try and sell the product. The man carried no identification and left no information. Wrexham CBC’s Telecare service provider have confirmed that these calls were not made by them and that their staff always carry identification.

Please exercise great caution with cold calls from traders offering any goods or services but especially those offering services that are specifically intended for older or more vulnerable householders. It is vitally important that those businesses offering such products are legitimate.

Wrexham CBCs Telecare service is run in partnership with Sanctuary 365 who provide the service on behalf of the Council. The Telecare system makes it possible to raise an alarm or summon help through the home telephone line at the press of a button. If you, or someone you know might benefit from a Telecare system you can find out more about it, what it can do and how much it will cost by calling 01978 292075.
