An investigation is underway following a fire at a school in Hightown in the early hours of this morning.

North Wales Fire and Resuce Service were called to a fire thought to be St Christophers School by Bryn-y-cabanu Road at 2:12am this morning, although the only school on that road is Ysgol Bodhyfryd.

Four appliances from Chirk, Llangollen and Wrexham, together with the aerial ladder platform from Wrexham , were mobilised to the incident at the school.

On arrival, firefighters discovered the roof of the school was well alight.

Crews used four sets of breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to bring the fire under control by 04.18hrs.

Wrexham.com did visit both schools but could not see any fire damage to identify which was the one affected.

Last month several cars were targeted in an arson attack less than 500 metres away from the schools, for which no one has been caught.

The cause of the fire at the school is currently under investigation but it is thought to be accidental at this time.
