The top of Price’s Lane park has been cordoned off by the council after “dog food laced with poison” was left around there last night.

It is believed it was an attempt to kill badgers who have a sett nearby.

The police are investigating and nearby CCTV is being checked as badgers are a protected species.

Wrexham Council’s Streetscene Team have collected the uneaten dog food but there are concerns some small pieces could remain.

Cllr Marc Jones who shared the detail above told Wrexham.com, “A local resident alerted both the council and police to the dog food laced with poison. It had been laid from the mouth of the badger sett in a trail to a large bag of the dog food. It’s a part of the field where dogs are able to roam free and it’s possible some may have eaten the poisoned food.

“I know that one dog is seriously ill and fighting for its life – and I hope it pulls through. It’s a stupid and reckless thing to do – badgers are a protected species and whoever did this must have known that dogs, cats and other wildlife could eat this poison. If young children had been there, things could have taken a very serious turn.

“The council’s Streetscene team were quick to cordon off the area and make it safe and the police have now been to collect evidence.”
