Wrexham Council has issued a reminder to dog owners of the various restrictions in place in country parks and public spaces across the county borough.

Under the PSPO (Public Space Protection Order) dogs must be kept on their leads in car parks and around visitor centres around all country parks n Wrexham. They can be let off their lead when not in these areas.

The regulations were introduced two years ago after a public consultation found support for control of dogs in designated areas in Wrexham’s country parks and around visitor centres and car parks.

Other regulations which feature as part of the PSPO, include:

– You must remove dog faeces from all public places within the county borough
– Don’t let your dog go onto bowling greens, play areas of marked sports pitches or fenced children’s play areas, skate parks, tennis courts and multi-use games areas. (Owners with assisted dogs are excluded)
– You must put your dog on a lead when asked by an Authorised Officer
– Your dog should always be on a lead around visitor centres and car parks in parks and bowling greens
– Your dog should always be on a lead on a public road and/or pavement.

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “As a dog owner myself I don’t find the restrictions very difficult to follow but for some reason some visitors to our parks and public areas either don’t know or don’t want to abide by them.

“There is a penalty for this and you could find yourself with a £100 fine. Please adhere to the restrictions and enjoy your time out with your dog
