More than 2,000 knitted poppies knitted by members of the community are on display at a local church to commemorate 100 years since the end of the First World War.

The display features as part of an exhibition on display at St Mary’s Church in Brymbo.

Brymbo Community Council has provided funding to support the commemorations since the end of the First World War and are encouraging members of the community to come together to honour the commitment of those who served, died or remained at home during the conflict.

The Community Council has also funded a commemorative book written by Mr Keith Walker to remember those from the village who died as a consequence of the War.

An exhibition will take place at St Mary’s Church in Brymbo between 7th and 11th November from 1pm until 5pm.

It includes works by the local St Mary’s School and Brymbo Heritage Group. A cascade of over 2000 poppies will be on display knitted by the Crafty Ladeez and silhouette figures have also been purchased from the “There but not there” project.

County Councillor Paul Rogers who has been involved in the project hopes the exhibition will help bring the community together and thanked everyone involved.

Cllr Rogers said: “The Community Council has provided funding to honour the commitment of those who served in the First World War through various remembrance events over this week.

“I am humbled to have been able to work with representatives of St Mary’s Church, Methodist Chapel, various community groups and local residents in supporting their work and hope that it will bring the community together.”

On Sunday 11th November an earlier service will take place at 10.15 at the Methodist Chapel, followed by a procession to the Village War Memorial for the Act of Remembrance at 11am.
