Over 30 weird and wonderful creations have popped up across Gresford and Marford as part of this year’s ‘Scarecrow Trail’.

Now in its seventh year the annual event is organised by environmental group IMAGE (Improve Marford And Gresford’s Environment).

This year’s theme honours children’s literature and features “characters from four popular children’s authors”, including Beatrix Potter, Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl and David Walliams.

The colourful designs will be on display across the two villages until the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Those wanting to see the weird and wonderful creations can follow a trail throughout Gresford and Marford, with programmes available for purchase for £1 from Gresford Newsagents, the Spar and Gresford Library.

Once their appearance is over, many of the fabulous creations will then be transported to a “Scarecrow Tea” as part of a ‘Picnic in the Park’.

Taking place on the afternoon of Sunday 3 September in and around the Gresford Memorial Hall, the event will include the announcement for the three selected entries who fully identify all characters and to the creator of “the people’s choice “for best scarecrow.

IMAGE chairman Andrew Bailey said: “We hope that everyone on the trail enjoys themselves safely and we are truly thankful we have so many creative spirits in our area.

“All monies generated from programme sales goes towards environmental work in our area.”

IMAGE thanks Delmar for the programme printing and also our sponsors Wrexham Plumbers Merchants & Richard Edwards Plumbing, Heating & Gas Services and the outlets for the programmes
