Crowds gathered in Llay this evening to take part in a candlelit vigil for the victims of last week’s terror attack at Manchester Arena.

22 people were killed and around 120 injured in the terror attack on the Manchester Arena after an Ariana Grande concert on Monday evening.

Tonight people gathered in the Llay Central Gardens to pay their respects to those affected by last week’s attacks.

Addressing the crowd at the start of the vigil, Llay Councillor Rob Walsh offered his thanks to those who had attended – before inviting people to light candles in the centre of the garden.

Children and adults alike joined together to light the tea light candles, with several people also leaving notes, flowers, toy animals and Welsh flags as a mark of respect to those affected by the terror attack in Manchester.

After the minute’s silence, local student, 15-year-old Sami El Dabba sang a rendition of ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ by Oasis.

Speaking after this evening’s vigil, Cllr Walsh said: “I am proud that so many members of Llay`s community and elsewhere came to show respect for those who tragically lost their lives in Manchester.

“It is important that the victims are remembered by us all, especially for their grieving families. This vigil, just like the one in Wrexham on Friday, shows that our communities are showing solidarity with the people of Manchester and all those affected.

“Special thank you to Allison Lewis, whose idea it was and Carrie Humphreys for making the arrangements. Also, thank you to young Sami for singing Don`t Look Back In Anger so brilliantly and Rev. Huw Butler for reading the prayer and opening up the church for the public after the event.”
