Those who dispose of their waste illegally are being warned of a court order following a spate of fly tipping incidents in Wrexham.

In recent weeks there have been a series of fly tipping incidents in the Victoria Road car park area of Wrexham.

Officers going through the littering and rubbish have come across identifying paperwork and will now consider whether or not to issue fixed penalty notices or, in the case of the fly tipping call them in for interview prior to a prosecution.

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for the Environment and Transport, said: “Fly tipping is an offence that causes a blight in our communities and we are determined to clamp down on offenders.

“If we can identify those responsible we will not hesitate to prosecute and the courts can award fines of up to £50,000.

“Clearing up after fly tipping and litter costs the council £1.2 million pounds a year.

“That is money that could be invested in improvements to our services.”

Those who discover waste that has been fly tipped should follow the advice listed below:

– Do not touch the waste, it may contain hazardous substances
– Do not disturb the site, as it may contain evidence that could help identify the offender and lead to a prosecution
– If you see someone commit the act of fly tipping: – note the date, time and place of the occurrence, note what the waste looks like and how much of it there is and note a description of any vehicles involved, along with registration numbers
– Do not approach any fly tippers. They are doing something which is illegal, they do not want to be caught and may become violent.

Residents can report incidents of fly tipping and also dog fouling, littering and parking concerns by contacting Contact Wrexham Council on on 01978 298989.
